Bio

If you're navigating the facilities management profession and wondering whether your background "fits" — I want you to know that mine didn't follow a straight line either, and that's exactly what I bring to mentorship.

I'm Donnie Moore, Facilities Director at Family of Christ Christian School in the Tampa Bay area, where I've built the facilities department from the ground up. My day-to-day spans everything from building systems and campus security to IT infrastructure and grounds management — but what I love most about this work is that no two days are the same.

My path to FM wasn't traditional. I spent years in the IT and construction industries, including time with Dell, Inc., before career burnout prompted me to step back and ask what truly mattered. Transitioning into Facilities Management — following in my father's footsteps — turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. That experience taught me something I now carry into every mentoring relationship: career pivots aren't detours. They're often the path itself.

I hold the IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation and am actively pursuing my CFM. I'm a firm believer in continuous learning, and I try to model that for everyone I work with.

What I can offer you as a mentor:

  • Real-world guidance on building and leading a facilities department — especially in lean, resource-limited environments
  • A perspective that bridges IT, operations, and strategic facility management
  • Honest, practical conversation about career transitions, burnout, and finding renewed purpose
  • Encouragement to see challenges as the classroom, not the obstacle

I've been shaped by great mentors, difficult seasons, and meaningful work. Now I want to invest that back into others who are serious about growing in this profession.

If you're early in your FM career, transitioning from another field, or simply looking for someone who will shoot straight and show up consistently — I'd be glad to connect.

With more than 30 years of experience in the IT/Facility industry—spanning from private construction firms to my time at Dell, Inc.—I bring a unique perspective that bridges technology, people, and physical environments. After years of corporate experience and the challenges of burnout, I chose to follow in my father’s footsteps and transition into Facilities Management. It’s been one of the most rewarding shifts of my career—each day presents new challenges, problem-solving opportunities, and meaningful connections with people.

Mentorship is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what I do. I believe in helping others grow by sharing real-world experience, guiding them through challenges, and encouraging them to see every obstacle as a learning opportunity. Whether it’s helping new professionals find their path in facility management or advising peers on balancing technology and operations, I value the chance to give back what so many great mentors once gave me.

After relocating from Tennessee to Florida to care for my parents, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for resilience, adaptability, and purpose. Joining IFMA has only strengthened that passion—connecting with others who are equally dedicated to professional growth and operational excellence.

Every role I’ve held, from IT consultant to Facilities Director, has reinforced one truth: leadership isn’t about position—it’s about impact. My goal now is to continue learning, mentoring, and inspiring others to find the same fulfillment in their careers that I’ve been blessed to rediscover.
